How to get Symantec Endpoint Security Stop Using Port 80

The installer for Symantec Endpoint Security gives you two options for installing the web site.

  1. Use the default Web site Installs the Symantec Endpoint Protection IIS Web application in the Default IIS Web site, and works with any other Web application that is installed in the Web site.
  2. Create a custom Web site Disables the Default IIS Web site, and creates a Symantec Web Server for Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

I find neither of these options appealing. Being familiar with SAV for many years, I like to keep it separate from other apps as much as possible to help prevent the multitude of problems I have been subject to with SAV. I typically have something running on port 80 so what I want is to install it to it's own site and not disable the site currently running on port 80. Here are the steps.

  1. Install using the create custom web site option. This will disable the site you have running on port 80 until we can make the changes needed.
  2. Go to the IIS manager. Stop the new Symantec site. You can re-start your original port 80 site at this time.
  3. Go to the properties of the new Symantec site, change the port to whatever you prefer.
  4. Start the new Symantec site.
  5. Edit the conf.properties file in the Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\etc folder. add a line: scm.iis.http.port=[new IIS port number]
